Men's Tennis Blanks Lewis & Clark, Remains Perfect In NWC

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - For the second straight day, the No. 19 Whitman College men's tennis team knocked a squad from the ranks of the Northwest Conference's unbeaten. In the second of back-to-back matches, the Blues blanked Lewis & Clark 9-0 on Saturday at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center to remain atop the league standings.

The win closed a conference home opening weekend which also included Saturday's win over George Fox. Whitman now heads to Southern California for matches in Claremont against Pomona-Pitzer (Mar. 18) and Bowdoin (Mar. 19).

Whitman (5-6, 4-0 NWC) set the tone with a clean sweep in doubles play. The most dominant win came on the No. 2 court when the Blues tandem of Ben Kirsh and Jacob Strabo took down the Pio pair of Riley Vickers and Ryan Hayes, 8-2.

The Blues made it a perfect morning with a clean sweep in singles play. The lone challenge came on the No. 1 court with Kirsh rallying from a set down to beat Raed Attia 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Start time for Monday's match at Pomona-Pitzer is set for 2:00 p.m.
