Blues Take Down PLU, Remain Perfect In NWC

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - With the weather cooperating for the first time this spring, the Whitman College men's tennis team played its first match on the Whitman Outdoor Tennis Courts of the spring season, topping Pacific Lutheran 9-0 in Northwest Conference play on Saturday.

Ben Kirsh and Daniel Foster kickstarted the dominant performance for the Blues who improved to a perfect 6-0 in conference play and 7-10 overall. Kirsh and Foster took down the Lute pair of Michael Campbell and Marcus Lee 8-2 at the one followed by Jacob Strabo and Adam Rapoport's 8-2 win on the No. 2 court.

Whitman completed the doubles sweep with Jack Freer and John Carter's 8-3 win at third doubles over Jake Kim and Branson Near.

The Blues sealed the win after wins on the No. 1 and No. 6 singles courts. Kirsh topped Campbell 6-0, 6-2 at the one and Foster clinched the Whitman victory with a 6-1, 6-0 second singles win over Justin DeMattos. Matthew Biggi closed the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win on the No. 4 court.

Whitman continues conference play on Sunday against Puget Sound. First serve at the Whitman Outdoor Tennis Courts is set for 10:00 a.m.
