Women's Lacrosse Edged At Linfield

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Nina Moore scored five goals, Sage Ali added five assists but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College women's lacrosse team fell at Linfield 21-16 in Northwest Conference action Monday evening at Maxwell Field.

The Wildcats needed to pull away from the Blues (9-5, 7-3 NWC) in the second half as Whitman had scored four straight and seven of the previous eight goals to shave the lead to only two. Katie Hinnen had a couple of goals in the run, the last with 11:41 to play to make it a 17-15 ballgame.

Down the stretch though it was a 4-0 run made up of two Bethany Shade goals that put some room between the Wildcats and Blues. Shade would score a game-high six goals with Gabriella Moe adding four goals and three assists.

The first half saw an even match with Hinnen's goal tying the game at 5-5 with 17:06 to play. The Wildcats would then score six straight, the first three of the run via the combination of Nathaly Sanchez and Josie Duey.

Trailing 13-7 coming back from the break, Ali scored to make it a five-goal game but three straight goals, two from Shade, gave Linfield its biggest lead of eight goals.

Piper Spencer and Anna Cadigan split time goal with Spencer playing 26-plus minutes and making five saves. Kyle Duey and Epi Roldan-Rayo each played a half for Linfield making a combined 11 saves.

The Blues close the season out on the road next weekend, visiting Willamette on Saturday, Apr. 27 then playing their season finale one day later at George Fox.
