Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls To Hamline

SPOKANE, Wash. - Eying its first win of the season, the Whitman College women's soccer team came up just short, falling 2-1 to Hamline University on Saturday in the team's final game of the Whitworth Fall Classic held at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

Hamline scored its two goals just before and just after halftime which proved to be the difference. Sophie Brussell's goal in the 69th minute got the Blues (0-2) back in the game but that would be all the scoring for the Blues who dropped their second in as many games to open the season.

Bryanna Schreiber earned the start in goal for Whitman, playing the first half before being spelled for Allie Seracuse who played in goal the rest of the way. Each gave up a goal with Seracuse tallying four saves and Schreiber two. Lauren Sicora started in goal for Hamline, making eight saves and allowing the lone Whitman goal before being spelled in the 71st minute.

The game featured a lot of action in both team's attacking thirds. Hamline posted a 13-12 shot advantage but both teams had a combined 17 shots on target.

Siri Parker for the Pipers (2-0) scored the game's first goal in the 41st minute. Receiving a pass from Kaelin O'Fallon, she dribbled past Schreiber before putting the ball in the back of the net. Hamline went up 2-0 with Ashley Olsen's goal less than four minutes into the second half.

Brussell scored a solid goal just over 20 minutes to play with a shot from outside the box that went in over the keeper's head.

Whitman returns to action for its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Blues host Columbia Basin at 2:00 p.m.
