TACOMA, Wash. - Still in search of that elusive first win, the Whitman College women's volleyball team did not find it today, falling at Pacific Lutheran in straight sets in Northwest Conference action on Saturday. Set scores were 25-11, 25-22, 25-18.

Taylor Knight again led the Blues (0-8, 0-2 NWC) with a solid hitting night, drilling a team-high 10 kills and hitting at a .238 clip. Elyse Benavides added eight kills but also posted nine errors as the Blues hit .075 as a team for the match.

McKenzie Pfeiffer led the Lutes with 10 kills and Halle Hetzler added a match-high 11 digs.

An 8-0 run midway through set one was the story of the opening frame. A kill from Hailey Iha and two more from Pfeiffer ignited the run of eight straight points to give PLU a 16-7 lead. A Whitman timeout did little to stymie the momentum as the lead continued to swell. Back-to-back Emily Dulaney aces closed out the set.

Whitman matched up well with PLU in set two but a late run by the Lutes proved to be the difference. The Blues led by a point off a Knight ace but PLU responded with four straight. Whitman had a run of its own as Benavides got in a block and added two kills as part of a 6-0 spurt to give Whitman a 13-10 lead. The Blues extended the advantage to 20-15 but PLU stormed back, winning 10 of the next 12 points to win the set and all but take the life out of the Blues.

PLU retained the momentum and completed the sweep one set later.

The Blues play the last of their NWC string of early season road matches on Wednesday when they pay a visit to Whitworth. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
