Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Cruises Past Pacific, Remains Perfect IN NWC

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Darne Duckett led a well-balanced Blues offense, scoring 21 points off the bench as the Whitman College men's basketball team had little trouble with Pacific (Ore.) in a 118-90 win over the Boxers in Northwest Conference action on Friday night.

Six players scored in double figures as the wealth was spread early and often. Trevor Osborne scored all his baskets from beyond the arc (4-7) for a 13-point evening and Robert Colton had his fingerprints all over the court. He scored 12 points on an efficient 6-8 shooting while grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds for the double double.

The Blues, who kept their perfect NWC record in tact, saw nearly half of their points come from bench scoring, most notably by Duckett's big night. Weston Crump scored 16 points on 7-10 from the floor with Bryce Mulder and Michael Gutierrez both adding nine points. Whitman used a hot-shooting second half (72%) to win going away.

Davis Holly provided the offense for the Boxers (4-11, 1-4 NWC) with his game-high 22 points. Andy Isokpehi added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Whitman led from the get-go as back-to-back three pointers from Osborne and Andrew Vickers helped the Blues score the game's first eight points. Mulder's bucket in the paint extended the lead to 11 points with 16:01 to play.

Pacific answered with a furious rally in the middle of the half. Brennen McNabb's three pointer capped a 12-0 run and put his team up 20-19. The Blues regained control but Pacific hung around until late in the half when Duckett scored to push the lead back up to 11 points.

Nikola Trifunovic nailed a three pointer early in the second half to put the Blues up 60-48 and the lead never dipped into single digits again. Whitman reeled off 12 straight points, punctuated by Crump's three pointer as the Blues led 73-51 with 14:24 to play.

The Blues look to remain undefated in league play when they face Willamette on Saturday. Tipoff versus the Bearcats is set for 4:00 p.m.
