Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

No. 8 Women's Basketball Upended At Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Kaylie McCracken scored a season-high 24 points but it came in a losing effort as the No. 8 Whitman College women's basketball team saw a 19-point first-half lead evaporate in a 65-64 loss at Pacific (Ore.) in Northwest Conference action on Friday night.

The game was a battle of the league's elite teams as both carried undefeated conference records heading into the evening. McCracken added a team-high six rebounds with Mady Burdett scoring 14 points and Makana Stone adding 13 more.

For the Boxers (11-3, 5-0 NWC) Courtney Carolan shared game-high honors with McCracken with 24 points and Alexis Intong added a double double with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Blues (12-2, 4-1 NWC) held their 19-point lead early in the second quarter, but still were up big in the third as McCracken's hoop with 5:50 to play put Whitman up 45-30. The Boxers chipped away at the lead in the back half of the period however. Carolan was active on the offensive end, scoring seven points inside of three minutes to play to whittle the lead down to six points heading to the fourth quarter.

The Blues continued to lead in the fourth quarter as Stone's bucket put her team up 59-52 with 6:29 to play. Pacific then reeled off seven unanswered points, a run sparked by a Brilie Kovalov three pointer and the game was tied with under four minutes to play. Burdett scored on a layup to regain the lead for the Blues but Kaylssa Kleinschmit's three pointer with 1:11 to play proved to be the dagger. Pacific took a one-point lead on the triple, one they held onto for the win.

Whitman led big on the heels of an 11-0 run to open the game. A pair of baskets each from Burdett and Stone gave the Blues the big early lead. Burdett and McCracken then nailed back-to-back three pointers to extend the lead to 23-11 with just over two minutes to play in the period. Whitman opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run and led 33-14 with 7:41 to play until the break.

Whitman will look to get back on track on Saturday against Willamette. Tipoff versus the Bearcats is set for 4:00 p.m.
