Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Swept By UPS In Road Finale

TACOMA, Wash. - Christina Boxberger led the Blues with eight kills, Brooke Valentine equaled a match-high with 10 digs, but it was enough as the Whitman College women's volleyball suffered a sweep at the hands of Puget Sound in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night.

Sophia Domintz added five kills and a match-high three blocks for the Blues (6-17, 4-10 NWC) who hit at a modest .169 clip but certainly not enough to top a Logger team who hit a scorching .368.

Jordan Holman led the Loggers with a match-high 14 kills and Samantha Johnson added 10 digs.

Set one saw the Loggers run off five straight points midway through the set to take control. Sydney London delivered a kill to tie the game but Sara Olsson drilled a pair of kills as part of her team's run to put UPS up 12-7. Boxberger later recorded a kill and got in on a block to keep the Blues within striking distance, but the Loggers never surrendered the lead.

The Blues took their turn in the driver's seat to start set two. Boxberger bookended a 6-0 run with a pair of kills to give her team a solid early lead, one Whitman kept for a good duration of the set. Johnson's ace cut UPS's deficit to one point but the Blues won four of the next five points to help to a 16-12 lead. UPS caught fire and in the blink of an eye had run off eight unanswered points to take a 20-16 lead, and control of the set.

Set three again saw the Blues match wits with the Loggers but also another mid-set run by UPS. Whitman trailed by only two points but a pair of Holman kills highlighted a 6-0 run as the Loggers won going away to complete the sweep.

The Blues close the season at home this week, facing Whitworth on Wednesday, Nov. 3 and Lewis & Clark for Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 6.
