Baseball Swept In NWC Play At Pacific (Ore.)

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - David Johnson crushed two homeruns on the day but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College baseball team suffered a double header sweep at Pacific (Ore.). Whitman lost the opener 11-9 and dropped the nightcap 7-4.

Game 1
The opener saw the Blues jump out to an early lead but the Boxers rally to win a high-scoring two-run ball game. After Kevin Nakamura (2 H, 2 R, 1 RBI) put the Blues up with an RBI single, David Johnson (2 H, 2 R, 2 RBI) crushed a three-run homer to help his team to four runs in their first at bats.

The Boxers responded with eight runs over the third and fourth innings. Isaac Lovings brought Pacific to within one run with his three-run blast in the third. Jordan Hara then gave the Boxers their first lead on a two-run double one inning later.

Johnson homered again for the Blues in the ninth inning but it wouldn't be enough to erase their four-run deficit heading into their final at bats.

Travis Craven (0-2) suffered the loss in four innings of work allowing eight earned runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts.

Game 2
Nakamura got the Blues on the board first in the back end of the double header, driving home a pair of runs in the first inning to put his team up 2-0.

Dexter Aichele suffered the loss in five innings of work, but kept the Boxer order in check for much of the first three innings. Pacific finally got to him when Hara homered to put his team on top 3-2. Blair drove home his second run of the game in the sixth inning to put Pacific up 7-2 and Boxers held on for the win.

Whitman and Pacific (Ore.) tangle once more with a doubleheader on Sunday set for 11:00 a.m.
