FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Whitman College men's tennis team closed Northwest Conference play with a 6-3 loss at Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday. With the league season concluded, the Blues enter next week's NWC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will square off once again with Pacific in the opening round. George Fox will serve as tournament host with the exact dates and times still to be determined.
The Boxers left doubles play with a one-point lead after victories on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts. The most lopsided loss for the Blues was at the three when
Aidan Schutter and
Aaron Yuan lost 8-0, but the team of
Andreas Mueller-Immergluck and
Jack Freer helped avoid a doubles sweep with an 8-6 win on the No. 1 court.
Pacific sealed the win with the first three results going its way. Schutter and
Bear Lee lost on the two and five courts, respectively, to bring the Boxers to within one win of the victory. They clinched the win when Sean Murphy topped
Tom Chang 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) on the No. 3 court.
Whitman and Pacific close their regular seasons with a non-conference match on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
