Men's Tennis Drops Two On Opening Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Whitman College men's tennis team served up its spring season on Friday but came up short in two matches. The Blues fell at Division I Montana 7-0 then dropped another 7-0 defeat at Lewis-Clark State College.

Playing Division I scoring, MSU won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point heading into singles. All three matches were fairly competitive. Harshvardhan Chopra and Lucas Huang opened with a 6-2 defeat to the Grizzlies team of Gustav Theilgaard and Milo Benn. The point was clinched on the one court when Ed Pudney and Oisin Shaffrey handed John Carter and Kai Strawn a 6-2 defeat.

MSU clinched the victory on the No. 3 singles court. Despite falling in straight sets, Jasraj Sethi battled Moritz Stoeger in a close second set before falling 6-0, 6-4.

The most competitive result came at six singles with the match decided. Huang suffered a sweep to Sam Baldwin but hung in there in both sets before falling 6-3, 6-4.

LCSC 7 Whitman 0 (Lewiston, Idaho)
Whitman closed the day against Lewis-Clark State in another Division I formatted scoring match. Each doubles match featured similar results. On the No. 1 court, Alejandro Raffo and Luca Viarengo fell to Matus Rusnak and Beknazar Tursyngazy 6-3 with the Warrior pair of Cade Edwards and Austin Gomez beating Luca St. Goar and Jackson Wurzer 6-4 at the two to claim the point.

The Warriors won each match in straight sets with the clincher on the No. 2 court. Rusnak took down Viarengo 6-3, 6-1 and claimed the victory. Two matches featured opening set tiebreakers but with the result already at hand. O'Farrell came up short at the three 7-6, 6-0 to Tursyngazy with St. Goar closing the competition with a 7-6, 6-2 loss at fifth singles.

The Blues are back at it tomorrow morning, visiting another Division I opponent in the University of Montana at 10:00 a.m.
