Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Upended In Road Opener

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Jander Cline scored a team-high 13 points, Isaiah Amato added 12 more off the bench, but contributions up and down the Trinity roster led the Tigers to an 86-58 win over the Whitman College men's basketball team on Saturday at the Paul Peak Classic.

The Blues (2-1) were done in by a 21-6 turnover disparity and the Tigers getting 33 points in bench scoring. Despite that, Whitman played a competitive first half with Trinity, one they left with a 34-33 lead.

Braxton Barry posted game highs of 15 points and seven rebounds and Christian Green added 13 more and also shared game-high honors with seven rebounds. Only one Tiger player failed to score.

Whitman trailed most of the first half, but never by more than four points. The game opened with a Cline three pointer with him later scoring at the hoop to put Whitman up 7-6 with 16:43 to play. Heading toward the midway point of the half, the teams began to exchange three pointers when Dean Balo broke a 12-12 tie with a three ball, but Alex Pape responded for the Blues on the next possession with a three pointer of his own.

Grant Hunt got on the action inside of 10 minutes to play when he hit a three pointer to put his team ahead 22-20. The Tigers regained the lead but late in the half, Jai Deshpande scored on a layup and Amato intercepted the ensuing inbounds pass and scored at the buzzer to send Whitman to halftime up one.

The game remained close in the early stages of the second half, but then the wheels came off and Trinity began rolling. Runs of 10 unanswered and 12 unanswered points did the Blues in as the Tigers ran away for the victory.

Whitman will look to right the ship when it plays tournament host Southwestern at 1:00 p.m. PT (3:00 p.m. CT).
