Men's Soccer Turns Back Lewis & Clark

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Whitman College men's soccer team scored two goals in each half en route to a 4-1 victory over Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Stadium.

Chris Gomez scored the first and final goals of the game. The first came in only the fourth minute with Jacob Burrill netting Whitman's second less than 12 minutes into the game. The Blues (7-7-5, 7-4-4 NWC) appeared on their way to a dominant victory but the Pios (0-18-1, 0-14-1 NWC) had other ideas when Nathaniel Pi-Sunyer snuck a ball past Lucas Haigh to cut the lead in half.

The scoreline remained until the last quarter of an hour when the Blues sealed the win with a pair of goals less than three minutes apart. Pablo Gonzalez, Jr. scored in the 75th minute on an assist from Lucas McAllister, then Gomez netted his second in the 77th minute on a service from Sawyer Valero.

Whitman had far and away more chances in outshooting the Pios 20-8. Haigh made three saves in net for the Blues with Declan Cloutier posting four for Lewis & Clark.

Whitman closes the season at George Fox on Sunday, Nov. 5. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
