The Whitman College men's golf team fell to Whitworth 8.5 – 5.5 in the first men's golf competition of the spring over the weekend.
The Pirates led 3-2 after Saturday's contests, held at Sun Willows GC in Pasco, featuring four best-ball matches and one singles match. Jacob Rawley and Matthew Durkin edged Whitman's
Alexander Knox and
Parker Krovisky 1-up, while Gabe Cach and Daniel Rue won 5 & 4 over
Jacob Ryerson and
Ben Sweet. On the Whitman side, the team of
Tom Hoyne and
Max Ray-Keil defeated Whitworth's Sam Pauly and Oliver Nordberg 3&1 while
Eshan Singh and
Jack Garnsey beat Isaac Janzen and Aaron Storem 6&5. In the only singles match of the day Grady Burkett beat Whitman's
Mussa Guzha 1-up.
On Sunday the teams played singles matches with nine points available at Suntides GC in Yakima. Whitworth took the second session winning 5.5 points to 3.5 points.

Tom Hoyne able to score a half point with a tie against Whitworth's Pauly. For Whitman, Singh,
Ben Sweet and Guzha were able to secure points with wins in their respective matches but it was not enough for the Blues to catch the Pirates.
The Blues will return to action March 19-20 at the Texas Cup in Richardson, Texas.
