Golf Teams Conclude Opening Round of NWC Championship

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Whitman College men's and women's golf teams opened play at the Northwest Conference Championship by putting themselves firmly in the mix on both leaderboards after Sunday's opening round at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

On the men's side, the Blues closed the day in third place in the team standings, positioning themselves squarely in contention heading into Monday's final round. Paced by a balanced effort throughout the lineup, Whitman kept pace with the leaders in a crowded field that saw players stacked tightly on the individual board.

Individually, all five Whitman scorers finished Day 1 inside a compact pack of contenders led by Grady Brown who closed the opening 18 holes tied for second on the leaderboard after firing a three-under 71.

The women's squad mirrored that competitive standing with a solid opening round of its own, closing Day 1 in fourth place. Whitman battled through a deep and experienced conference field to stay within striking distance of the podium, setting up a meaningful final day with both team and individual goals still on the table.

Camilla Yoo was Whitman's top Day 1 performer on the women's side and sits firmly in the mix for a conference title as one of four tied for first after shooting five over 77.

With the margins razor-thin across the conference, every hole on Monday will carry weight as the Blues chase both team trophies and all-conference individual honors at Pumpkin Ridge.
