McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Whitman College men's soccer team scored two in the first half and another late for a dominant 3-0 win at Linfield in Northwest Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Soccer Complex.
The Blues (2-5-1, 3-2 NWC) penetrated Linfield's attacking third to the tune of 15 shots, six on goal. Bernie Jones made one save while handling five Wildcat shots in posting the shutout and his team's second straight win. Colby Reese made three saves for the Wildcats (1-5-3, 1-2-2 NWC) while allowing the three Whitman goals.
Jacob Burrill had a hand in both first half goals. The first came in the 27th minute when he found Lucas McAllister who finished past Reese. Burrill did the scoring later in the half, this time a beneficiary of a ball played out of the back from McCoy Hennes.
The two-goal lead stood for most of the second half until the 88th minute when Edwin Romero scored to put the game out of reach.
Whitman closes out the weekend with a Sunday match at Willamette set for 2:30 p.m.
