Martin Leads All Scorers, No. 22 Women's Basketball Falls At Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Carly Martin led all scorers with 18 points, Lindsay Drango added 12 points and 11 rebounds, but it came in defeat as the No. 22 Whitman College women's basketball team fell to Pacific in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night.

The rematch of last season's league tournament final was as advertised as the teams showcased their talents on both ends of the floor for the entirety of the game. Emily Holsen scored 17 points and eight rebounds for Pacific (13-5, 9-1 NWC) who trailed Whitman early in a tightly contested fourth quarter.

Korin Baker kicked off the final period with back-to-back buckets before Jordan Leith nailed a three pointer to put the Blues up 41-39 with 7:01 to play. Shaade Williams responded for the Boxers and jump started a 7-0 run with a three pointer.

The Blues (14-5, 6-4 NWC) trailed by five late in the game before Natalie Lundberg drained a three pointer to cut the Pacific lead to 50-48 with 1:55 to play. Whitman completed the rally in the final minute after Martin and Leith both scored to tie the game at 52-52 with six seconds to play. In the waning moments, however, Brilie Kovaloff was sent to the line after a Whitman foul. She subsequently hit her two shots to send the Blues to their third loss in four games.

Leith added nine points off the bench for Whitman who shot 38% from the field.

Whitman will look to right the ship this week with a midweek home game against Whitworth. Tipoff against the Pirates is set for Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m.
