Yang, Baker, Stage Fall In ITA Cup Opening Round

ROME, Ga. - A magnificent run came to a close for Cameron Yang, Noah Baker and Alexander Stage. In the opening round of the ITA Cup on Thursday held at the Rome Tennis Center, Yang fell in straight sets in the singles competition and the pair of Baker and Stage were narrowly edged in their opening round doubles competitions.

All three had qualified for the prestigious tournament by claiming their respective singles and doubles titles for the Blues at the ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championship last month.

Yang battled but fell convincingly in his Round of 16 singles match. He was upended by Tufts University's Vuk Vuksanovic 6-1, 6-1.

Whitman's championship doubles duo of Baker and Stage nearly advanced to the quarterfinals. After dropping a set one tiebreaker, they rallied to even the match but eventually fell in three sets 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-5.

The ITA Cup concluded the fall season for the Blues who now have their sights on the spring championship season.
