Men's Soccer Plays To 1-1 Draw at UPS

TACOMA, Wash. - The Blues and Loggers both scored in the final 10 minutes, giving the fans an exciting finish as the Whitman College men's soccer team played the University of Puget Sound to a 1-1 draw in Northwest Conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Whitman (8-2-2, 5-1-2 NWC) had hoped to grab three points on the weekend but had to settle for one as the first round came to a close.

Neither team could find the back of the net until Sawyer Valero put the Blues up with a goal in the 82nd minute. Oliver Dickson found Valero inside the box and he finished low and inside the far post with what looked like the gamewinner.

The Blues outshot UPS 16-3, but the Loggers (4-3-4, 3-1-4 NWC) made good on one of those three, a penalty kick in the 88th minute. A long ball out of the back found the foot of Rhys Foote who made a touch toward the bi line looking to serve a ball into the goal mouth. He was dragged down in the box before doing so and earned the penalty kick for the Loggers. Pema Globus took the spot kick and scored past Niclas Isensee in net for the Blues.

Lucas Haigh started in net for the Blues and Isensee played the second half. Ryan Saunders posted eight saves for the Loggers while giving the one goal.

The Blues are on the road again next weekend with matches at George Fox and Pacific.
