Women's Soccer Gives Up Late Goal In 1-0 Loss To Bucs

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's soccer team had its three-match unbeaten streak snapped after giving up a late goal in a 1-0 loss to Whitworth in Northwest Conference action on Wednesday night at Hayner Field.

That was a tough one," said Whitman coach Michelle Voiland. "We dominated the game in all areas all over the field. We hit the crossbar and had multiple scoring chances. That is soccer sometimes. You have to put the ball in the net. The execution of the game plan, the effort, the fight, the grit and teamwork was awesome. We keep moving forward and welcome another game on Sunday."

Both teams had stretches of positive play throughout the game, but it wasn't until the later stages of the second half that the scoring chances picked up for both sides. Seanee Still, subbed into the Whitman goal at halftime, parried a shot over the crossbar to keep the game goalless. The Blues also had several opportunities, often generated from combination play on the left flank from Katherine Sand and Leah Barnes.

The Bucs would be the team that finally found the back of the net, doing so with a goal from Yacine Bitibale in the 78th minute. With time and space in the back, Madison Carr served a ball into the Whitman penalty box which Bitibale collected and fired past Still inside the upper left corner.

The final 10 minutes saw a fury of activity from Whitman in front of the Whitworth goal, but the equalizer never came.

Still and Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky combined for three saves and Whitworth keeper Anna Boyer recorded nine saves.

Whitman returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 when it hosts Linfield at 2:45 p.m. at Hayner Field.
