Men's Soccer Takes Care of Business with 3-1 Win Over Lewis & Clark

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's soccer team scored two goals in the first 10 minutes en route to a 3-1 win over Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference action on Sunday afternoon at James Hayner Field.

The win keeps the Blues (8-1-1, 5-0-1 NWC) undefeated in league play and atop the conference standings which is approaching the end of the first round.

If there was ever a thought of the Pioneers sitting in to earn a result, that strategy went out the window when Sawyer Valero scored only 31 seconds after kickoff. Zachary Stonier beat his opponent and cut into the left bi-line and laid a perfect ball to Valero who finished past Micaiah Garan in net for Lewis & Clark.

Valero nearly scored a second moments later but his shot to the far post bounced back into play and was cleared off the line. It wasn't long after that the Blues doubled their lead. In the 10th minute, Stonier collected his second assist when he found Kevin Serrano who netted Whitman's second goal.

Whitman dominated possession and chances on goal but it wasn't until the 76th minute when it put the game away. Takahiro Hikida found Riki Kobayashi who scored to put his team up by three goals.

The Blues now face a crucial road swing with matches next weekend at Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound.
