Glorioso's Late Gameinner Lifts Women's Soccer Past Willamette

SALEM, Ore. - Exciting finishes have lately become the norm for the Whitman College women's soccer team. The Blues gave up an equalizer and scored the game winner in the final six minutes to top Willamette 2-1 in Northwest Conference action on Sunday afternoon

"Another awesome performance," said Whitman coach Michelle Voiland. "The team battled for 90 minutes and never gave up. So much patience and determination and absolute will to win in this team. Such a fantastic win today and a great 6 point weekend."

Both teams played to a goalless first half but the Blues (11-5-2, 8-4-2 NWC) broke the stalemate with Avery Cohen's goal in the 53rd minute. With time and space, Leah Barnes dribbled down the center of the pitch and played a perfect through ball to a wide open and streaking Cohen. She collected the ball inside of the penalty box and scored low and inside the far post to put the Blues up.

The Blues eyed a victory after taking the one-goal lead inside of the final 10 minutes. The Bearcats (6-7-5, 5-6-3 NWC) had other ideas as Ella Abraham one-timed poor clearance from 35 yards which found the back of the net past the outstretched arm of Seanee Still.

Whitman's gamewinner came with just under five minutes to play. The Blues earned a corner kick which was taken by Ella Johnson. She served an excellent ball to the foot of Kiki Glorioso who one-timed a shot low and into the back of the net.

Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky earned the start and played a quiet yet scoreless first half. Still came on at halftime and registered seven saves while preserving the win.

The Blues return home for their final two games. They take on Puget Sound on Saturday and Pacific Lutheran on Sunday for Senior Day. Both kickoffs are set for 1:45 p.m.
