WALLA WALLA, Wash. -
Lucas Huang won at doubles then gave the Blues their first win in singles to lift the Whitman College men's tennis team to a solid 5-4 win over Colorado College on Saturday evening at the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center.
The Tigers struck first with a win at third doubles, but the Blues came through with wins on the No. 2 then No. 1 courts. Cameron Yang and Huang topped the Tiger pair of August Knox and Nick Anderson, 8-3, before Artem Manov and Charles Rush won at the one to give Whitman the lead heading to singles.
Colorado College regained the lead after solid straight-set wins on the No. 1 and No. 5 courts. Huang then evened the score for the Blues with a victory in the only three-set match, a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 win on the No. 2 court. Manov later put Whitman ahead with a victory at the three, but Braeden Thomas fell on the No. 4 court as the match came down to sixth singles.Â
Alejandro Raffo came through for Whitman, notching an impressive 7-5, 7-5 win over Nick Anderson to clinch the win.
Next up for the Blues is a visit to Whitworth on Monday, Feb. 19 for a non-conference match between NWC opponents. Start time is set for 1:30 p.m.
