Men's Tennis Drops A Pair To Open Road Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES - The Whitman College men's tennis team opened its spring break trip on Wednesday but came up short in both matches, falling at Occidental 6-3 and to No. 6 Bowdoin 9-0.

The opening match saw the Blues snag a victory to stay alive through doubles play. After Oxy won matches on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts, the Whitman pair of Braeden Thomas and Noah Baker won in a tiebreak at the three 8-7 (5).

With both teams notching straight-set wins which included Thomas' second of the day in a 6-2, 6-3 win at the four, the match came down to the results from the No. 3 and No. 5 courts which turned out to both be three-set matches, and both going to the Tigers. Brett Miller rallied to beat Artem Manov 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 at the three, and Luca Viarengo fell to Mason Hart at fifth singles 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Bowdoin 9 Whitman 0
The Blues closed with the nation's sixth-ranked team in Bowdoin and fell to the Bears 9-0. 

Whitman competed well in two of the doubles contests but still left down 3-0. Hanri Luo and Jackson Wurzer had the most success but fell 8-4 on the No. 2 court.

Bowdoin finished off the Blues quickly in singles action, but Whitman battled to a pair of close matches after the victory had been secured. William Lanstra led after a set at the four before falling in a third-set tiebreaker 1-6, 6-1, 7-6. Chris O'Farrell lost in straight sets on the No. 6 court with both sets won in tiebreakers.

The Blues continue their trip with a pair of matches on Thursday which includes Washington University - St. Louis and at Cal Lu.
