Women's Soccer Blanks Caltech In Season Opener

PASADENA, Calif. - Loralei Starr scored on a penalty kick in the first half, Leah Barnes added another early in the second and the Whitman College women's soccer team opened the season with a solid 2-0 win at Caltech on Friday afternoon.

"Today was a great way to kickoff the 2024 season," said head coach Michelle Voiland. "The players were focused and started the game on the front foot. We created and scored some nice goals and our defense was very strong getting the first shutout of the season. "

Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky delivered a shutout in her first start as a Blue and posted three saves in the process. Sophia Steven posted six saves while giving up the two goals for the Beavers.

The Blues (1-0) opened the scoring after earning a penalty kick on a foul inside the box. Starr stepped up and converted the spot kick to put Whitman up.

The score stood until early in the second half. Off a pass from Virginia Hunt, Barnes netted her shot past Steven to double the lead.

Caltech (0-1) did have some scoring opportunities in the second half but Pasena-Littlesky and the Blues kept a clean sheet and sealed the win.

The Blues conclude their quick Southern California road trip with a match at La Verne on Saturday, August 31 at 7:00 p.m.
