Women's Soccer Cruises Past Corban (Ore.)

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Ella Johnson and Marisa Baba both scored a pair of goals, Ellie Cortes-Muniz added two assists and the Whitman College women's soccer team opened up a three-goal lead by halftime and cruised to a 5-0 win against Corban (Ore.) on Sunday afternoon at James Hayner Field.

"What a fantastic performance today," said head coach Michelle Voiland. "The team was ready from the start and executed the game plan very well. It was so fun to see the players solving problems and creating such great opportunities. Our finishing was definitely on point today. This was another great step forward as we head into conference play." 

Johnson opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a brilliant strike. She collected the ball at the top of the box after Whitman (3-1) had gained control in the attacking third, then lofted a ball to the far side netting. The Blues netted their second moments later when Gracia Larson found Baba inside the box who slotted her shot low and inside the far post.

Whitman all but put the game away in the 41st minute with a pretty third goal. Cortes-Muniz played a ball down the left flank to Kareena Mathew who served a splendid ball across the goal mouth. Baba ran on and finished her shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the half.

Whitman put the game away just over 10 minutes into the second half. Cortes-Muniz assisted on her second goal as Leah Barnes scored into the right side netting to put her team up 4-0.

Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky earned the start in goal with Seanee Still coming on at halftime. The pair posted three combined saves. Catriona Burns and Ava Hayes combined for five saves for the Warriors.

The Blues are next in action when they open Northwest Conference play hosting Pacific. Kickoff is set for 2:45 p.m.
