Women's Soccer Plays To Goalless Draw With Pacific

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - In a very competitive affair to open league play, the Whitman College women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw against Pacific on Saturday afternoon at James Hayner Field.

"Today was a solid start to conference play," said coach Michelle Voiland. "We created numerous really good chances to score. I think they blocked one off the line and one hit the post and a few just went by runners in the box. The team defended very well and handled a physical opponent. We always love a shutout and we will happily take the point."

Despite a goalless first half, the Blues saw the lionshare of the possession including a major chance on goal. Kareena Mathew served a ball from the left flank that found the left foot of Ella Johnson. Johnson's bid on goal bounced off the far post and was cleared off the line by a Boxer defender.

Whitman ramped up the pressure in the second half which saw exceptional movement on the flanks leading to multiple scoring chances. Just over 10 minutes to play, the Blues dispossessed Pacific in its own defensive third leading to Bailey Bell dribbling with time and space. She found Molly Beaulieu with a through ball who managed no more than a shot across the bow.

Whitman's best chance may have been Emma Foley's shot inside of five minutes. She ran behind the Boxer defense and was played a through ball just outside of the penalty area. Kylie Pascual made the save of the game, venturing outside of the penalty area to deflect Foley's shot off her midsection and back into play.

Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky earned the start in goal for the Blues with Seanee Still coming on at halftime.

Whitman closes out the weekend with a Sunday matchup against George Fox. Kickoff is set for 2:45 p.m.
