Women's Soccer Edges George Fox 1-0

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - With the clock winding down and the Blues staring down the barrel of another draw to start the league season, Bailey Bell turned the tide and netted a late goal to lift the Whitman College women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over George Fox in Northwest Conference play on Sunday at James Hayner Field.

"I am so happy for the team," said coach Michelle Voiland. "It was a hard fought game and we played very well against a really great opponent in George Fox. The team showed incredible grit, belief and heart. What a great win!"

The Bruins had yet to allow a goal against a non-Division I opponent but that all changed in the 80th minute. Leah Barnes served a ball from the left flank which ricocheted off a Bruin back right outside the goal box. Bell found it and slotted it past Emily Robey in net for George Fox.

Lindsey Pasena-Littlesky earned the start in goal for the Blues and Seanee Still played the second half, both dealing with their fair share of pressure but combining for the shutout.

Emma Foley had a chance to put the Blues up not even five minutes into the game. After being fed a through ball through the teeth of the Bruin defense, Foley lofted a shot to the far post which bounced off the post and across the goal. Fox keeper Emily Robey managed to range across the goal and scoop up the loose ball.

Both teams had ample scoring opportunities throughout the match but it was Whitman who capitalized on one and walked away with the win.

Next up for the Blues is a midweek visit to Whitworth. The teams will square off on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 4:00 p.m.
