NEWBERG, Ore. - The Whitman College men's tennis team served up the season on Friday, facing the field of Northwest Conference teams at ITA Fall Northwest Regional Championship hosted by George Fox at the Multi-Use Facility.

Singles play saw six Blues advance to Saturday's Round of 16, each winning a pair of matches to do so. Whitman's lone newcomer Alexander Stage entered as the tournament's No. 2 seed but needed to rally from a set down in his opening match before cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 third round win over Linfield.

Stage wasn't the only Blue who showed his metal on Day 1 as Lucas Huang and Cameron Yang also rallied after dropping their opening sets. After sweeping his opening set, Huang rallied to beat Lewis & Clark 4-6, 6-3, 11-9. Yang rallied in his opening match to top Whitworth 5-7, 7-6 (1), 10-7. 

The day also saw a trio of doubles teams advance to Saturday's quarterfinal. The teams of Alexander Stage and Noah Baker, Lucas Huang and Cameron Yang, and Diego Guzman and Charles Rush will all play tomorrow afternoon in the quarterfinals.
