Women's Volleyball Falls In Battle of The Whits

SPOKANE, Wash. - Haylee Pruse recorded 16 assists and 10 digs, Quinn Pulver added a match-high 11 kills but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College women's volleyball ran up against a dominant Whitworth team, falling to the Pirates in four sets in Northwest Conference action on Tuesday night at Whitworth Fieldhouse. Set scores were 25-10, 26-28, 25-21, 25-14.

Ella Jimenez posted a team-high 10 kills for the Bucs (11-2, 3-0 NWC), Cassidy Franklin dominated at the net to the tune of nine blocks, and Taylor Miche added a match-high 20 digs.

The opening set was not lopsided the entire way, but rather saw a big and late run from the Bucs nail down the win. The Blues made sure this would not be the story of the match and rallied for an impressive set-two win that went into extra points. Whitworth led early and went up 9-6 after a pair of Jimenez kills. Whitman rallied and unleashed a run of eight unanswered points to take a commanding lead. Kills from Pulver, Lola Folk and Nadia Shepherd spearheaded the run and put their team up 14-9.

The Bucs closed the gap but the Blues found themselves with the set's first set point. Unable to convert, Whitworth acquired one of their own but the Blues ran off three straight points to close the set and even the match.

Whitman would be unable to sustain the momentum however. The Blues were efficient on attack in set three, hitting at a .310 clip, but still found themselves on the losing end.

Whitman is next in action this Saturday, Sept. 28 at Linfield. First serve is set for 6:00 p.m.
