Men's Basketball Rolls Past Lewis & Clark

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's basketball team played to a grind-it-out contest, but eventually showcased their superiority in a 66-42 win over Lewis & Clark on Friday night at the Sherwood Center.

Ali Efe Isik scored a team-high 15 points for Whitman who allowed the fewest points of the season in running their league record to a perfect 3-0.

Isaac Ticeson led the Pioneers with team highs of 10 points and five rebounds. Sebastian DePrez posted six points and four rebounds off the bench.

The Blues (5-7, 3-0 NWC) started slow and didn't score their first basket until Grant Hunt (13 pts, 4 reb, 4 stl) got his jumper to go with 15:48 to play in the first half. The bucket kickstarted Whitman's offense as Hunt later drilled a three pointer and Efe Isik completed an and-one three-point play to put the Blues up 19-12 with 8:30 remaining.

The lead continued to swell on the heels of a 12-0 run in the late stages of the half. Alex Pape had half of the points including a steal leading to a fast break layup. The run put the Blues up 33-17 at the break concluding a dominant first-half defensive performance.

The Pios never threatened in the second half. Pape converted an and-one three-point play to push the lead north of 20 points and Whitman never looked back.

The Blues close out their four-game home stretch to start the season with a matchup against Willamette on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
