Carly Martin Scores 1,000th point, Blues Roll

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Carly Martin became the newest member of the 1,000-point club, notching that milestone honor in the second quarter of a 72-33 win over Lewis & Clark in Northwest Conference action on Friday night at the Sherwood Center.

The 33 Pioneer points matched a season low by an opponent set just last weekend against Pacific Lutheran. Korin Baker led all scorers with 15 points while also equaling game-high honors with seven rebounds. Martin tallied 15 points on the evening, scoring her 1,000th and 1,001st points on a backdoor cut facilitated by Baker. Christiane Carlisle added 14 points and five rebounds.

Lauren Frederickson and DJ Kendrick led Lewis & Clark, scoring 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The result was never in doubt. The Blues quickly opened up a 10-point lead after easy layups from Baker and Martin put them ahead 14-4 with 6:06 to play. The run continued as Baker hit again from the floor and Lindsey Drango got her jumper to go to make it a 13-point lead by the end of the first quarter.

The advantage reached 20 points with the second quarter barely underway. Holly Morgan hit a jumper then Drango grabbed a rebound off a missed shot on the next possession and found a streaking Carlisle down the floor. She nailed her three-point attempt to extend the lead to 29-9 8:33 to play.

Coach Michelle Ferenz found a way to get her reserves ample playing time the rest of the way. After Martin's three-pointer midway through the third quarter put Whitman up 45-13, the lead never dipped below 30 points as the Blues cruised to the win.

The Blues close out their four-game home stretch to start the season with a matchup against Willamette on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
