Women's Volleyball Keeps It Rolling, Sweeps Pacific

FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Under the Friday night lights at Pacific University's Stoller Center, the Whitman College women's volleyball team turned in a commanding performance, sweeping the Boxers in straight sets for their fourth clean sweep in five matches. Set scores were 25-15, 25-20, 25-20.

The win keeps the Blues (7-9, 6-3 NWC) in a tie for third in the league standings now one match into the second round.

Right from the opening serve, the Blues asserted control. Addie Belt set the tone early with several thunderous kills as part of her 13 kill, 10 dig performance that helped the visitors establish quick leads in each set.

Whitman's offense ran efficiently, the Blues jumped out to early advantages behind strong service runs and never looked back, keeping Pacific on the defensive throughout the evening. Lilli Thompson provided a crucial boost, finishing with 13 kills of her own, while Arina Gushchina added timely points at the net and contributed to the block party up front.

Though Pacific (4-11, 1-9 NWC) fought to stay within reach, especially during key second-set rallies, Whitman's balanced play never let the host side gain momentum as the Blues finished the night with a solid .207 hitting percentage. With the defense digging up nearly everything and the offense firing on all cylinders, the Blues completed the sweep and maintained their standing as one of the top teams in the conference.

Next up for Whitman is a visit to Willamette. The Blues and Bearcats face off on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
