Men's Soccer Remains Undefeated With Draw At Willamette

SALEM, Ore. - In a thrilling Northwest Conference matchup, the Whitman College men's soccer team extended their undefeated streak with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Willamette University at Sparks Field. The result keeps the Blues atop the conference standings ahead of Pacific Lutheran.

Whitman faced a persistent Willamette side that struck first in the 34th minute when Rory McKee capitalized on a rebound to put the Bearcats ahead. Despite trailing, the Blues dominated the second half with aggressive offense and possession, unleashing 14 shots compared to Willamette's three.

Whitman's persistence paid off late in the contest as Remy Marcks delivered a stunning equalizer in the 86th minute, slotting a deflected shot from the side of the net to salvage a valuable point. Marcks' goal was a testament to the Blues' resilience and offensive depth, preserving their perfect 8-0-5 overall record and maintaining their grip atop the Northwest Conference standings at 7-0-2.

Goalkeeper Niclas Isensee was a stalwart in the Whitman net, making key saves to keep the team in the game, while the defense held strong against several Willamette attacks. The match featured physical play as evidenced by several yellow cards, but both teams fought with intensity to a hard-earned draw.

This competitive 1-1 draw between well-matched teams provides plenty of intrigue as conference play heads toward crucial closing games, with Whitman aiming to maintain their supremacy.
