Women's Volleyball Swept At Willamette

SALEM, Ore. - Sammy Holmer posted 13 kills and nine digs but it wasn't enough as the Whitman College women's volleyball team suffered a tough straight set loss to Willamette in Northwest Conference play on Saturday night. Set scores were 25-12, 25-23, 25-21

The Blues struggled to gain momentum against a strong Willamette squad, who demonstrated consistent hitting and a tight defense to control the match.

Whitman was led offensively by Sammy Holmer, who nearly posted a double-double with 13 kills and nine digs, hitting .273 on the night. Despite her strong effort and nearly flawless reception rate of .923, the team could not overcome Willamette's superior block and attack, as the opposing team outblocked Whitman 4.0 to 2.0 and hit over .240 as a team.

The match showcased Willamette's depth and execution, containing the Blues' offense and capitalizing on key moments to pull away decisively in each set. Whitman's errors and lower hitting percentage (.145 on 40 kills) were critical factors in the loss. With the defeat, Whitman dropped to 9-9 overall but remains competitive at 6-4 in conference play as the season progresses.

The Blues have a quick turnaround before hosting Whitworth on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6:00 p.m.
