Women's Soccer Earns Scoreless Draw With Linfield

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Linfield University in Northwest Conference action on Sunday at James Hayner Field, marking a school-record seventh conference tie for the Blues this season.

"Today was another fantastic battle. I thought the players fought hard, had a fantastic second half especially and just couldn't quite get one past the Linfield goalkeeper," said head coach Michelle Voiland" Considering we played our fourth game in a week and  Linfield had bye last weekend, I thought our energy was high and our persistence was excellent, These players give their all week in and week out and fight until the end. I am so proud of the energy, effort, and implementation of the game plan, getting a shutout and most importantly, how these players show and support one another. We are looking forward to our last two home game of the season and the chance to honor our amazing senior class."

Neither side found the back of the net during Sunday's tightly contested matchup, as both teams finished with 10 shots apiece as goalkeepers on both ends posted strong performances. Whitman netminder Eleanor Johnson turned aside six shots in the first half, while Seanee Still contributed three saves in her second half of action.

Linfield goalkeeper Alexa Fritz stopped eight total shots, including several attempts late in the match as Whitman pressed for a winner.

The Blues dominated possession during the final 20 minutes, generating a series of scoring chances and forcing Fritz to make five saves in the closing stretch. Gracia Larson proved to be a constant threat, leading all players with five shots, four of them on target. Emoree Lash also put two shots on target, challenging the Linfield defense as Whitman pushed for a breakthrough.

Despite their pressure, Whitman could not convert, and the match ended in a 0-0 tie.

The Blues return to action next weekend with home matches against George Fox and Lewis & Clark.
