Men's Basketball Outdone By Idaho In Exhibition Action

MOSCOW, Idaho - The Whitman College men's basketball team opened their 2025-26 season with a tough exhibition road game against the Division I University of Idaho, falling to the Vandals 94-49 on Friday night at ICCU Arena.

The Blues struggled throughout the contest where they were outmatched by the higher-division hosts.
Whitman faced a relentless Idaho offense that shot a scorching 55% from the field overall, including an impressive 48% from beyond the arc.

The Vandals built and maintained a commanding lead from the opening tip, only briefly allowing Whitman to gain a foothold. Whitman managed just 25% shooting on 15-for-61 from the field, with their three-point shooting at 22.5%.

Jacob Fotu led the Blues' offensive effort with 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers to tie for the game high in that category. He also contributed four rebounds and five assists. Despite Fotu's efforts, Whitman was overwhelmed by Idaho's scoring depth, with the Vandals' bench outscoring Whitman's 39-21.

The Blues managed to keep the game somewhat competitive in the first half, whittling the lead to as few as four points after enduring a 14-3 Vandal run to start the game. UI pulled away decisively with a 57-point second half, finishing with 94 points. The team struggled to generate offense against the aggressive Idaho defense and faced issues with turnovers and rebounding differential.

Overall, the Whitman College men's basketball team will look to learn from this exhibition experience as they prepare for the regular season ahead which begins officially at Walla Walla University on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 6:00 p.m.
