Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Tops PLU To Win NWC Title

TACOMA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's soccer team wrote an unforgettable chapter in program lore, posting their first undefeated Northwest Conference season and hoisting the accompanying championship trophy since 1981 with a 3-1 win over Pacific Lutheran at East Field.

The Blues found themselves tested early, but soon unfurled a performance worthy of their new legacy, a win that not only delivered a title, but also clinched the program's maiden voyage to the NCAA Tournament on the final day of the regular season.

The contest's opening act was tense, nerves palpable as both sides carved out first chances. Whitman pressed forward in waves, but it was Pacific Lutheran who drew first blood, with Owen Bliskis converting a penalty kick late in the first half. A lesser side might have withered, but Whitman's response was instant and emphatic. Just moments later, Remy Marcks tucked away the equalizer, set up by Riki Kobayashi, to level the score

After the break, Whitman played as a champion-in-waiting. The pressure was relentless, with the Blues outshooting the Lutes 30-12 by game's end. William Miranda-Ortiz struck first in the second half, lashing home what would stand as the winning goal, with Spencer Lovell providing the pivotal assist. Moments after, Lucas McAllister stepped up to nail a penalty of his own, establishing a 3-1 cushion that felt insurmountable given Whitman's growing control. Goalkeeper Niclas Isensee and his back line did not falter, keeping Pacific Lutheran at bay through the final whistle.

Whitman's first outright NWC crown was sealed, and first since 2018 when they won a share of the title with the very same Lutes. PLU earned the league's NCAA automatic qualifier that season but it's now Whitman's turn to go dancing.

The NCAA will unveil its tournament field on Monday, Nov. 10 at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
