Isaiah Amato posted a team-high 20 points on 8-10 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and the Whitman College men's basketball team took down Pacific with a 74-67 Senior Night win over Pacific in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night at the Sherwood Center.
Prior to tipoff, seniors Aidan von Buchwaldt, Grant Hunt, Alex Pape, Gabe Latkovich and Amato were honored for their years of service to Whitman basketball.
The win was a key one for the Blues (10-13, 8-6 NWC) who, now with only two games remaining, currently sit tied for third in the conference standings which would land them a spot in the upcoming NWC Tournament.
Grant Hunt added 14 points, and Ali Efe Isik and Bernard Dzesi chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench.
Devin Fortune led all scorers for the Boxers, putting up 21 points while grabbing eight rebounds and posting three steals.
Both teams shot it evenly as the lead changed hands several times in the first half. Whitman took a 10-point lead shortly after halftime but the Boxers rallied to regain the lead. Djordje Lazarevic rose to the occasion in the second half, twice hitting three pointers which regained the lead for the Blues.
With the game approaching the final five minutes, Fortune broke a 58-58 tie with a three pointer, but von Buchwaldt answered back with a triple of his own and the Blues captured the momentum and slowly pulled away.
The Blues play their regular season home finale when they host Whitworth on Tuesday in the latest edition of the Battle of the Whits. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
