Korin Baker Breaks Career Scoring Record, No. 5 Blues Roll

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - History was made on Tuesday night. Less than two minutes into the second half, Korin Baker was fouled on a turnaround baseline jumper. She stepped to the free throw line, knocked down her first attempt and became Whitman women's basketball's all-time leading scorer.

Baker, along with Carly Martin, finished with a game-high 21 points and the No. 5 Whitman College women's basketball team steamrolled past Whitworth 77-51 in the Battle of the Whits on Tuesday night at the Sherwood Center.

Ashlyn Peterson and Alex Goetz both led Whitworth with 13 points.

Baker's game total brought her career scoring mark to 1,702, nine points ahead of Whitman great Katie Rubenser Woolridge who was on hand to witness the eclipsing of her long-time mark.

She tied the record during a first half in which the Blues shot 58% in the first quarter leading to a double digit lead. The lead swelled to as many as 18 points in the second quarter before the Bucs closed the gap by halftime.

As Baker set the record early in the second half, the Blues got set to take off. The lead swelled back up to 18 points in the third quarter before Whitman cruised to the win.

The Blues will look to complete a perfect conference season when they visit Linfield on Friday, Feb. 23. Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
