McVay Sets 10K School Record At Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Whitman College distance track team kicked off the season tonight in the 10K at the Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker, showcasing a handful of personal bests and NWC qualifying standards.

Eight members of the men's team and three from the women's squad ran 10K times qualifying them to take part in the NWC Championships in May.

In addition, nine runners achieved personal bests including Reilly McVay who broke a nearly 30-year old school record. He placed 10th in the field with a race time of 30:56.60.

Dori Buttleman paced the Blues on the women's side, cracking the top 10 with an eighth-place finish (39:40.25). 

Four other Whitman women's runners finished in the top 20 which included Lucy Hennessey who placed 12th with a race time of 40:28.30.

The Blues will take part in several distance events tomorrow on the second and final day of the Icebreaker which begins at 10:00 a.m.
