Men's Tennis Edges George Fox, Falls To EWU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's tennis team hosted two matches on Saturday, first beating George Fox 4-3 in an early meeting between top NWC teams, then coming up short 5-2 to Eastern Washington.

In the critical match of the day, a meeting between undefeated Northwest Conference teams, the Blues won a seesaw affair in singles action to jump to the top of the league standings.

The match was as advertised as doubles came down to the No. 3 court, and the victory was clinched with Whitman's win on the second to last singles match.

Whitman's top duo of Alexander Stage and Noah Baker struck first with a 6-1 win at first doubles. The Bruins evened the match with a win at the two, but Cameron Yang and Lucas Huang came through with a solid 6-2 win at the three to clinch the doubles point for the Blues.

Singles play saw Stage win his second match of the afternoon with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 win on the No. 1 court. Braeden Thomas provided the match-clincher when he rallied from a set down at the six for a 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Luis Hernandez.

Whitman closed the day with a competitive loss to Eastern Washington. The Blues lost the doubles point but did see Alexander Stage and Noah Baker win their second doubles match of the day, a 6-4 victory on the No. 1 court.

The Blues captured two singles wins, first by Hanri Luo who topped Brady Thomas 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) at the five. Charles Rush won by default at the six.
