Men's Tennis Tops Pacific, Increases Lead In NWC Standings

Box Score WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's tennis team cruised in doubles and did the same in singles en route to a dominant 6-1 win over Pacific in Northwest Conference action on Sunday at the Whitman Tennis Courts.

The Blues (12-11, 10-0 NWC), now riding a three-match win streak, remain perfect in league play heading into the final two weekends of the conference season. With four games remaining, Whitman holds a two-game lead over second-place George Fox which sets up a crucial meeting between the two squads next Saturday in Newberg.

Whitman earned the doubles point after wins on the No. 1 then No. 2 courts. Noah Baker and Alexander Stage won their first doubles match 6-2 before Charles Rush and Artem Manov won 6-3 at the two.

Singles saw three matches go to three sets but all after the Blues made quick work in the other three to clinch the win. Stage topped Joshua Dela Cruz 6-0, 6-1 at the one to put Whitman ahead by two points. Cameron Yang won a first set tiebreaker and closed his sweep out at the two, and Lucas Huang wrapped the match up with a 6-4, 6-1 win on the No. 3 court.

The Blues and Bruins square off on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m.
