Blues Fall To UW-Stout In NCAA Second Round

MENOMONIE, Wis. - All-American senior Korin Baker saved the best for, and unfortunately, her last, pouring in a career-high 34 points which came in defeat as the Whitman College women's basketball team fell 75-69 to the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night.

The loss to the host Blue Devils was the third straight in the NCAA second round for the Blues who had hoped to return to the Sweet 16 for the first time since the 2019-20 shortened season.

Christiane Carlisle chipped in 15 points and, along with Baker, helped the Blues erase an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Holly Morgan got her jumper to go, capping an 8-0 run that tied the game at 67-67 with 1:48 to play.

The momentum was on Whitman's side but Anna Mutch, who led UWS with 31 points, found a lane to hoop and was fouled in the paint and scored the basket. She completed the three point play and the Blue Devils held on for the win.

The Blues certainly shot well enough to win in hitting 44% of their shots from the floor, and turned 17 Stout turnovers into 21 points.

Whitman (27-2) concludes an impressive campaign that saw them run the Northwest Conference table for only the fourth time in program history. They won the regular season and tournament titles before dominating UW-Superior in Friday's NCAA opener then falling tonight to UW-Stout.
