McManus Cracks Top 100, 16 Blues PR

SPOKANE, Wash. - With regular season meets winding down and runners looking to qualify for conference championships, the Whitman College distance track team delivered more than a handful of impressive performances at the Jeff Rahn Classic hosted by Whitworth on Friday at the Whitworth Pine Bowl.

Whitman competed in a handful distance events but reigned supreme in both the men's and women's 5000 meter. Nine runners cracked the top 20 across both races, all personal bests, with two top 5 finishes on the men's side. Jack McManus placed third (14:59.36) and his time cracked the top 100 in Division III.

Jonathan Grothe placed fifth (15:10.06) and Ellis Pryor finished seventh (15:16.77) to make it three Blues in the top 10 of the men's race.

Four Whitman women's runners placed in the top 20 in the women's 5000 meter. Lucy Hennessy (13th, 18:50.25), Dori Buttleman (14th, 18:52.33), Ally Kim (18th, 19:11.20) and Payton Davies (19th, 19:11.80) all delivered personal best times.

In addition to the 5000 meter race, Maleda Sims had PRs in the women's 200 and 400 meter, Finn Leahy PR'd in the men's 800 meter, Keenan Tiddle and Chance Kelly posted season bests in the 800 and Caden Hoyt topped his season best in the 1500 meter

The Blues have two more events on their schedule before the Northwest Conference Championship later this month.
