WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's tennis team moved one step closer to reclaiming its spot at the top of the Northwest Conference mountain. The Blues took down Puget Sound 5-2 on Saturday at the Whitman Tennis Courts, giving themselves at least a share of the Northwest Conference regular season title for the first time since 2019.
The Blues will go for the title outright on Sunday when they host Lewis & Clark to close the NWC regular season. Whitman holds a one-game lead over second-place George Fox who also closes the regular season on Sunday.
Whitman was quick to clinch the doubles point after dominant wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Alexander Stage and Noah Baker won at first doubles, and Cameron Yang and Lucas Huang clinched at the two at love.
The Blues cruised in singles with dominant wins on the No. 2 and No. 4 courts. Huang won 6-0, 6-1 at the two and Charles Boyden took down his Logger opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the four.
Whitman and Lewis & Clark square off tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.
