Men's Soccer Draws At EOU In Season Opener

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Whitman College men's soccer team opened the season at Eastern Oregon tonight, rallying from a two-goal, second-half deficit to earn a 2-2 result against the Mountaineers at Community Stadium.

Trailing by a goal, the Blues scored in the final seconds when Fernando Lopez-Vega found the back of the net past EOU keeper Anthony Lemus for the equalizer just before full time.

The game was the first time the Blues opened the season with a true road game, the previous coming in 2016 ending in an overtime victory over Caltech.

Niclas Isensee and Tait Whittemore both played a half for Whitman, each giving up a goal and posting a combined six saves.

Daniel Kropf scored the game's opening goal in the 18th minute before Milton Hernandez extended to a two-goal lead nearly two minutes into the second half.

William Miranda-Ortiz got the Blues on the board moments later and Lopez-Vega scored the equalizer with only three seconds to play to complete the riveting comeback.

The Blues head to Colorado Springs this week for a trio of matches, first at Colorado College on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
