Cross Country Faces The Field At PLU Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. - The Whitman College cross country teams returned to action today at the PLU Invitational, showcasing some fine performances on both the men's and women's side.

"A lot of great individual races today overall," praised head coach Scott Shields. "Just about every returning runner ran faster today than on this same course a year ago."

The women's side saw the Blues place eighth with Ella Harrington (23.18.1) leading the Blues. She nearly cracked the top 10 overall with an 11th-place finish and ninth among Northwest Conference runners

Payton Davies and Emme Rousseau also had excellent races along with solid performances from Brenna Mack and Annika Schwartz.

The men's side saw Jack McManus (25:02.0) push to the lead with just over a 1,000 meters left in the race, but unfortunately unable to pull out the individual title when he was caught in the last 30 meters. His race overall was, nevertheless, a personal best.

Jack Rousseau and Danny Steinberg were the second two Blues runners to finish, both running personal best times of 26:30.6 and 26:45.6, respectively. Great races from first year Alex Yee and Quinny Stuart rounded out Whitman's top five.

Next up for the Blues is their own Whitman Open on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 11:00 a.m. set to take place at Veterans Memorial Golf Course.
