WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Whitman College men's soccer team secured a 2-0 win over Willamette University in Northwest Conference play, with both goals coming from
Remy Marcks in the second half after a slow, rain-soaked start to the match.
The win gave Whitman two wins to start conference play and, at 3-0-3, without a loss yet on the season.
The opening 45 minutes saw tough conditions as heavy rains limited strong possession and attacking chances for both sides. Whitman managed only three shots while Willamette had four, but neither team registered a shot on target, with defenses holding firm.
As the sun emerged after halftime, Whitman ramped up its attack and began creating more opportunities. Remy Marcks broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute, finishing off an assist from Lucas McAllister. Just over 10 minutes later, Marcks struck again, this time assisted by Jude Clum-Stockton, with a well-placed shot high and inside the far post, doubling Whitman's lead and sealing the eventual win.
Niclas Isensee recorded a shutout for Whitman with eight saves.
Whitman's victory boosted their conference record and featured a dramatic change in momentum after the halftime weather shift, capped by Marcks' quick-fire double to secure the three points. The Blues hit the road this week to play Whitworth on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 3:00 p.m.
