Women's Volleyball Falls At Linfield In Four Sets

McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Whitman College women's volleyball team fell to Linfield in four competitive sets in Northwest Conference action on Saturday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. Set scores were 26-24, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22.

Arina Guschina had the strongest overall performance, posting nine kills while also chipping in 14 digs, two aces and two blocks. Addie Belt led the Blues with 13 kills while also registering eight digs. Melia Ferraro posted 22 assists and Lilli Thompson equaled a match-high of four blocks

Whitman (3-8, 2-2 NWC) battled hard throughout, keeping each set close and even leveled the match with a set two victory, but ultimately came up short. Linfield managed to capitalize on key opportunities and gained just enough separation late in each set to secure the victory.

Both squads turned in strong performances at the net. Whitman finished the night with 10 blocks, frustrating Linfield attacks while Linfield countered with 12 rejections of their own. This defensive intensity led to low hitting percentages by both sides—Whitman hit just .106 and Linfield sat at .114 for the match.

Each set saw lengthy exchange of points and several lead changes, particularly in the first and fourth sets when Whitman threatened to steal momentum. However, Linfield rallied with late defensive stops and timely kills, ultimately securing three sets by slim margins.

Next up for the Blues is a visit to George Fox on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:00 p.m.
